Introducing Ewan and Julia Wallace, dance instructors at Kippie
We started dancing in the mid 1990s, taking our first class on a cruise ship. We were soon hooked and joined the Northern Dance Club in Aberdeen, where we learned a variety of ballroom and latin american dances. To get to the next level we took private lessons, firstly in Aberdeen and then in Edinburgh, and by 2000 were competing regularly in Scotland and England. We concentrated mostly on ballroom and went on to become Scottish Senior ( over 35) Ballroom Champions seven times. We were also twice finalists in the British Over 50 Ballroom Championship. We also represented Scotland at senior European and World Ballroom Championships.
In the last few years, various operations and injuries required us to stop competing. However, we were determined to maintain our involvement in dancing, and, after retiring as GPs, obtained our UKA teaching qualifications in ballroom and latin dancing.
We started teaching ballroom and latin at Kippie in 2023 and have thoroughly enjoyed our experience. While we do want to teach dancing, we also want our classes to be light hearted and not too serious. We have healthy numbers attending our beginners and improvers classes and ( as far as we can tell at least!) they seem to be enjoying the experience. The classes are mostly couples, but singles are welcome too.
While we do concentrate on classes, we are also happy to give private lessons.
Dancing is great for fitness, physical and mental health, it’s fun, creative and very sociable.
Why not come along and try it?
Don’t worry if you think you ( or your partner!) has two left feet. Everybody can learn to dance.
