Kippie Lodge Membership
Impact of Coronavirus
Dear Valued Member
Kippie Lodge (Kippie) has been in existence for nearly 50 years as a Private Members’ Club and we have seen many tough times associated with the peaks and troughs in the oil and gas industry. Our membership and Kippie team have been loyal to a fault and stuck with the Club to ensure that we have a great facility which we know you all relish and enjoy.
The Lodge and the sports complex are now closed for all activities.
As we are a Private Members’ Club, our income comes almost exclusively from membership fees, supplemented by sponsorship from a few companies, whose names and logos you see around the facilities. We are extremely grateful for all your support. The Club has had strong business delivery over the last year and had made a good start to 2020, however the Coronavirus has added a very real threat to the survival of the Club and it is essential for us to maintain our income.
We have a range of ongoing costs that we have to incur just to maintain the facilities on the basis outlined above. We are stringently reviewing all costs and are removing all unnecessary ones and deferring others to a point where we are able to resume normal operational status. We are rigorously investigating all of the options announced by the Chancellor on 20 March, to manage our outgoings and retain our loyal staff.
The Committee is actively reviewing the potential of reducing membership fees for a period of time and we will communicate the outcome of this to members by the end of this week at the very latest. We need to fully understand not just our costs for 2020 but also for 2021 in making any decision.
Around 40% of our members pay their fees annually, the majority pay by direct debit. The direct debit portion covers all of the Club’s wage bill each month and we draw down against the other portion for fixed costs, upgrades and investment (e.g. in 2019 the gym expansion, updated H&B facilities and new Pilates/Yoga studios. Whilst in 2020 we are already committed to the installing a new tennis dome and changing facility in the pool area, we will no longer progress with the planned MUGA, deferring this until 2021 at the earliest.
We will also investigate options to remotely deliver fitness instruction to you online, so that you can manage exercise in your home environment during these extraordinary times. We will communicate all our options to you as soon as they are fully worked through. Please bear with us as we do so.
So, we are operating in unprecedented, extremely difficult times and it is only by uniting and continuing to support your Club through this period, that the Club, which you know and love, will continue to survive and thrive and go forward. We are therefore asking you to work with us and do the following to protect YOUR Club:
- Please do not cancel your direct debit
- Please do not cancel your membership
It is essential that we maintain our income from membership, and we ask you to support your Club and the incredibly hardworking, loyal staff through this stressful, testing period. Your help in this endeavour will be hugely appreciated. Take care of yourself and your loved ones.
The AGM (due 30th March) will now be postponed until 20th May at the earliest given the Government instruction on social distancing/public gatherings.
